This ukiyo-e warrior print depicts the famous Battle of Kawanakajima, featuring the legendary Takeda commander Yamagata Saburōbei (Yamagata Masakage) and his elite Red Armor troops (Akazonae).
The Battles of Kawanakajima were a series of major conflicts between Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin during Japan’s Sengoku period. Yamagata Masakage was one of Takeda’s most respected generals, renowned for his courage and military skill.
